Ultraviolet or UV radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation ranging between visible light and X-ray radiation.
The most popular artificial sources of UV radiation are discharge UV lamps. The main advantage of ultraviolet radiation is its disinfecting property – the ability to remove harmful microorganisms like bacteria, viruses and fungi. UV radiation directly affects the cells of organisms, causing a chemical reaction in their DNA, which results in damage to their genetic material and making them harmless.
UV Sterilizers (called also UV Disinfection Units) are devices extremely effective in killing microorganisms such as airborne and waterborne bacteria, viruses, yeasts, and molds. Germicidal lamps are used extensively in the air and water purification applications including drinking water, ultrapure water, food and beverage industry, medical application, room sterilization and sewage treatment.
